Why Support Educators for Social Responsibility?

ESR works directly with educators to implement systemic practices that create safe, caring, and equitable schools so that all young people succeed in school and life and can help shape a safe, democratic, and just world.

Founded in 1982, ESR is a national leader in helping educators:

  • Create classrooms where children and young people feel safe and respected
  • Build positive relationships with their students
  • Manage their classrooms effectively so that they can teach and students can learn
  • Teach social and emotional skills that help students deal with bullying and harassment, learn to deal with differences and resolve conflicts peacefully, and learn to care about themselves, others, and the planet

How ESR fulfills its mission

With a staff of 25 highly qualified trainers, we work on-site in hundreds of schools each year, reaching tens of thousands of educators with our trainings, workshops, and other professional development services. We also reach educators through conferences and institutes. And we disseminate top notch curricula and guide books to educators across the country and in other parts of the world. All told, ESR’s outreach to over 25,000 educators each year helps to improve the lives of 2 million young people!

How you can help

  • Reach more new teachers and give them concrete tools to succeed in their first year of teaching
  • Create new programs, training models, and curricula that help address the most pressing needs in schools
  • Get the word out to teachers everywhere about the many ways ESR can help
  • Support entire schools to make them places where all students feel that they belong and can succeed, including students that usually fall through the cracks
  • Build our capacity to reach more teachers, schools, and students
