Early Childhood
What is Early Childhood Adventures in Peacemaking?
Research indicates that children from age one to five develop patterns of socializing that can last a lifetime. The research emphasizes the value of early prevention and best practices that promote healthy relationships among children. ESR understands the challenges that early childcare providers face in establishing quality programs that nurture the social skills that are critical for school readiness and success in life.
So we designed Early Childhood Adventures in Peacemaking (AIP), a unique educational program for children, parents, and early childcare providers. AIP integrates conflict resolution, social and emotional learning, and appreciation for diversity into developmentally appropriate practice and curriculum for children from age three to seven.
How Can AIP Help My Early Childhood Center?
Since 1995, AIP has been making a difference in more than 750 early childhood and afterschool settings across the country. ESR knows that children learn best from doing, exploring, and playing in a supportive environment. AIP is an activity-based educational program that can be quickly and easily introduced into any early childhood setting. With AIP you’ll learn skills you need to develop an early childhood program that addresses the needs of the whole child.
We’ve made it easy. With the AIP program, you can tap into more than 150 interactive activities that are easy to lead and feature music, puppets, stories, games, and crafts. AIP adds value to your early childhood instructional program through engaging learning strategies that teach children to play with others, be a friend, express their feelings, manage their anger, cooperate in a group, and work out their differences without fighting or name-calling. You’ll learn daily classroom routines and practices that reinforce healthy social habits. And you’ll develop the skills to intervene effectively in interpersonal and group conflicts when things are not working.
What do I get with AIP?
We’ve made AIP programming affordable, fun to learn, and easy to use. After ESR leads two days of training and meetings with your staff, you’ll be ready to start implementing AIP. Two additional site visits and participant reunion meetings will help institutionalize the program. A family fun night will connect parents with your center and engage them and their children in activities drawn from AIP. Since every learning environment is different, we’ve made AIP early childhood programming flexible. An ESR consultant will train your early childhood staff and tailor AIP to fit your learning environment.
To maximize your programming dollars, ESR will do multi-site trainings where several early childhood centers can share the program costs and train together. We also offer a “Train the Trainers” program for multi-site early childhood programs where ESR guides your teacher leaders through the program and shows them how to coach other staff through the AIP activities. Whatever option you choose, you’ll have the skills and valuable tools you need to promote early character development, conflict resolution, and violence prevention in your learning environment.
With AIP you’ll receive:
- Early Childhood Adventures in Peacemaking—an award-winning guide with more than 150 activities that promote social and emotional development through music, games, stories, arts and crafts, drama, puppet play, and more.
- The Early Childhood Provider Kit—this kit has all the tools you’ll need to lead AIP activities, including hard-to-find items such as spot markers, buddy ropes, and feelings cards.
- Parent Connections—12 different activity sheets that help parents understand and promote AIP themes at home.
